Dr. Clayton McCarl
For more than 35 years, Dr. Clayton McCarl has provided exceptional dental care to residents near Mitchellville. Following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and uncle – all of whom were dentists – he started as a dental assistant while in high school as well as helping out with front desk duties.
He attended Western Maryland College and the University of Maryland, College Park before completing his dental degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He has extensive training in dental implants and smile enhancement, and he is a charter member of the Triple Crown Study Club and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Clatyon is also an active member of the American Dental Association and the Maryland State Dental.
When he’s not busy working alongside family members and partner dentists, he and his wife, Lisa, spend time with their three adult children and “perfect” grandchildren. His daughter, Ashley, serves as one of our hygienists! You’ll also find him exercising, traveling, and supporting the Maryland Terrapins and Baltimore Ravens.
Dr. Jay McCarl
Dr. Jay McCarl is pleased to carry on the tradition of providing excellent oral healthcare as a member of his family’s dental practice. As a caring and dedicated dentist near Mitchellville, he looks forward to going to work every day so that he can provide the services patients need to enjoy life with a healthier smile.
Knowing that dentistry was a potential career choice from an early age, he spent a lot of time thinking about whether he would continue the tradition or try something else. Once in college, he found that his father’s work as a dentist was admirable, so he decided to take the same path.
Graduating from Gettysburg College, he earned his dental degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Since then, Dr. Jay has continued to pursue the yearly requirements set forth by the state of Maryland as well as additional educational opportunities through his advanced dental study group – The Triple Crown Study Club.
He also earned a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and is trained to provide dental implants to his patients. He maintains an active membership in the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the Seattle Study Club. However, his educational pursuits and commitment to honing his skills expand beyond the national level. He previously traveled to the Dominican Republic and Haiti to provide volunteer dentistry, and most recently, he joined a group of staff members in Warsaw, Poland, to provide help to Ukrainian refugees.
When he’s not busy caring for patients, you’ll find Dr. Jay with his wife, Kim, and their two grown children, Jonah and Tori. He also enjoys exercising and volunteering his time with Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp and Seeds4Success.
Dr. Dianna Lee
Helping patients achieve better health and happiness are just two of the reasons Dr. Dianna Lee enjoys her work as a dentist near Mitchellville. As part of the McCarl Dental Group for more than 25 years, she started here when she was only 15 years old. Working as a dental assistant, she discovered her passion, which led her to pursue dentistry as a career.
Completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, she attended the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where she earned her dental degree. Since that time, she has become certified in Invisalign and cone beam 3D imaging. She is also experienced in performing guided dental implant surgeries.
Her professional memberships include the Academy of General Dentistry, the Triple Crown Study Club and The Maryland State Dental Association. Dr. Lee is pursuing additional training and education with the Seattle Study Club continuing education program throughout the year.
Dr. Dianna Lee is an avid sports fan and enjoys her free time cheering on the Terps and spending time with her family.
Dr. Richard Duarte
Being able to build personal connections with his patients and their families is what drives Dr. Richard Duarte to be the best dentist he can be. This opportunity to change lives stems from his own experience growing up. Dr. Duarte’s family is from Honduras; however, he was born in the United States. During his youth, he required a lot of orthodontic work. Spending much of his time in a treatment chair and getting to know his dentist, he discovered how impactful dentistry could be. The personal interactions and positive impact on patients’ smiles led him to work as a dental assistant in high school. He then completed his dental degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry before also completing a one-year residency in Advanced General Dentistry from NYU Langone.
Since completing his studies, he has become a member of the Seattle Study Club and Spear Education. He attends monthly lectures to stay abreast of the latest advancements and research in dentistry and pursues continuing education courses that allow him to hone his skills. He is certified in Invisalign and in cone beam 3D imaging, which he uses for his guided implant surgeries.

Dr. Duarte’s life outside of the office includes spending time with his wife, Claire, and their two children, Brooke and Grant. You’ll often find him outdoors and trying out new eateries around town.
Dr. Tommy Lam
As a dentist near Mitchellville, Dr. Tommy Lam finds it rewarding to help patients experience a pain-free, beautiful, and healthy smile. The positive reactions he receives from those who entrust him with their smile are what continue to motivate him to provide exceptional service and care.

He and his wife have two children, Mason and Addison, and you’ll often find him spending quality time with his family. He also enjoys playing and watching sports (i.e., basketball, football, and golf) as well as swimming and riding his Peloton.
